Launching Our Own Pressotherapy Line: A Far Infrared Massage Brand's ODM Review

Brand / ODM

From a logo file to machines carrying our own brand - a step-by-step review of private-labeling a far infrared massage and pressotherapy line, covering mockups, sample lead time and what mass production actually looks like.

Why we went private label

We are a beauty brand, not an equipment company. What we wanted was a pressotherapy and far infrared massage line that carried our own name on the front panel and in the packaging, without carrying the risk and cost of designing a new machine from scratch. For us, private label was the only realistic path to putting our brand on the shelf.

The deciding factor was scope of customization: logo, body color, outer packaging and manual, all on an existing, proven platform. That meant we could launch on the factory's QC-tested design rather than betting on a new one.

The customization process, step by step

We sent our logo files, two color references and packaging mockups. The factory returned design proofs for our approval before anything was made. Each customization point had a clear effect on lead time and minimum order, which they laid out item by item rather than as one vague number.

That item-by-item clarity is what made the process manageable. A logo on a white panel is a small change; a change to the housing color is a larger one. Knowing the difference up front is how you plan a launch date you can actually hit.

We have sent our logo (vector) and two color references. Could you produce a design mockup for the front panel and the packaging? And what is the sample lead time?
Received. We'll send design proofs for your approval first. Once approved, a sample is built and shipped so you can test it - the lead time depends on the scope, and we will confirm it per item.
What is the MOQ for the customized run?
A customized housing color has a higher MOQ than stock models. I've included the per-item MOQ and lead time in the attached sheet so you can plan the first production run.

Sample, then mass production

The sample arrived, and we tested it the way we would test any of our own products - with real users in our space, not just on paper. Once the sample was approved, mass production began, and we received QC photos before shipment. There were no surprises at the dock.

The manual in our language, the packaging with our brand, the front panel in our color - on the shelf it reads as our product, which is exactly the point of doing ODM.

What I'd tell another brand

Send clean brand assets early and be specific about what you want customized, item by item. Insist on a sample before mass production, and ask for QC evidence at every checkpoint. A factory that can show you the process at each step is a factory you can build a brand with.
